About the Smart Women Smart Choices Program
This free educational program is especially designed for Minnesota women between the ages of 18 and 24* who are concerned about the effects of drinking on their lives.
* Women aged 25-45 years of age who express an interest in changing their behavior and qualify may also participate.
What will a woman get out of the program?
The program offers a woman information and support to help her learn how to stay safe and in charge.
- Find out how to party smarter without getting wasted and having regrets.
- Find out how to protect yourself from an unplanned pregnancy, a sexually transmitted infection and injury when you drink.
- Learn more about choosing and using birth control and how to cut down on your drinking.
- Learn about resources and services especially for college women: phone lines, website, and places and people to give you support.
- Receive $50 in gift cards if you complete the Smart Women Smart Choices program.
How does the program work?
You work through program materials in private and at your own pace.
- There are no classes to attend. You learn in the privacy of your own space and at your own pace.
- You will be guided through an independent exploration and decision making process about your drinking and birth control use.
- You are given options about how to make a change to stay smart and safe when you party.
You complete the program in a series of steps:
First contact the program educator to find out if the program is right for you.- Take a survey about your drinking and other lifestyle habits and concerns.
- Receive personal feedback from the educator about your personal risks and suggestions for change.
- Receive an education packet that includes a workbook and resource directory to help you decide if and how to change.
- Get email or phone support and resources from a program educator to help you maintain change.
- Receive $50 in gift cards if you complete the Smart Women Smart Choices program.
You’re in charge:
- Decide how much help you want from an educator by email or phone
- Design your personal plan to change
- There is no coercing or bullying.
The program is sponsored and managed by the Minnesota Department of Health.
