About alcohol and pregnancy
Because many women don’t know they are pregnant for the first few months, they may continue to drink during this time of rapid growth for the baby.
They risk having a child with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) or another Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD).
- Children exposed to any amount of alcohol early and throughout pregnancy may be born with brain and central nervous system defects.
- This permanent brain damage results in life long learning, emotional and behavioral disorders and creates a need for lifelong special care.
